This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Prix gets more muscle for '99 with low-restriction air-induction components giving the naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 five more horsepower, to 200. This engine is standard on the GT (sedan and coupe) and optional on the SE sedan. A traction control indicator and on/off button are now standard on GTP models. Minor revisions are in order inside, with front-door courtesy lamps and a six-speaker sound system now standard, and an eight-speaker Bose audio unit and OnStar mobile communications system optional. Outside, a rear deck spoiler is standard on the GT model, and two colors have been added to the 1999 exterior paint chart.

Pros:
  • Strong powertrains, sporty styling, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Overstyled interior, cheap-looking dashboard plastic.

  • Selling to buy something reliable - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

This car is easy to fall in love with. Unfortunately, it is also a piece of junk. I have been back to the dealer 3 times in 4 weeks because the car turns off while I am driving. Obviously, the dealer cant figure it out. Since I cant afford to keep paying the dealer to do nothing and I dont own a tow truck, I am going to buy a more reliable import even at the expense of less performance.

Sharp and fast. Bought for my wife, and WOW. Big roomy interior, and very comfortable seating for adults and kids in back. Cool appointments--handier than my MB! Lots of "go-faster" parts avail., not that Ill be buying them-- she drives fast enough already......ha ha

  • Never buy from the cheapest - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

I purchased the 1999 Gold edition Grand Prix GT. Now with only 105,000 km thats right no error. I had to have the brake lines from the fire wall back all replaced. Was told Pontiac does not sell complete brake line assembly. Thats a days work for the mechanic to install. The car has been undercoated also. The mechanic who did the job replaced all the brake lines in his 1999 Chevy pick-up. Unbelievable! For a 10 year-old car thats not even a daily driver. Now I have a hood release cable that doesnt work when its cold outside. If you can wrestle the hood open, afterward the hood will not close properly. Also I was warned to replace the rubber bush mounts (suspension), both left & right side.

  • My Favorite Car - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

Still drives smoothly after almost 4 yrs of ownership. Only major repair was rotor replacement on front of car due to wear. With TLC along the way, the car still runs and looks like it did when I drove it off the dealer lot.

  • Grand Prix GTP - Best used car buy ever! - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

I use my car for business and do a lot of highway driving, so it makes sense for me to buy used and drive the car forever. My GTP has been my favorite so far! Fantastic acceleration, excellent handling and very comfortable heated leather w/ 8-way power seats. After 55,000 miles, I have has no major mechanical issues, leaks or failures. I put Michelin HydroEdge tires on it which made a dramatic improvement over the Goodyear Eagle LS tires with which it originally came. It returns about 18- 22 mpg city and 27-30 mpg hwy and still able to run high 14-second quarter mile times (comparable to stock Mustang GT performance). For the money, a well-maintained GTP is the best used car value!

  • Love it. - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

I bought this car because of the style but also in part because of the superb service by the dealer on my Bonneville. If I had to do it over again, only thing I would change is to have chosen a color other than white (Wife really wanted red with beige leather). Those writers who complain about dealers not being able to find a problem, or to fix it the first time, need to find another dealer. Mine is super, and has continually provided service to me far and above any other dealer I have worked with in the past 36 years.

  • Nice Car - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

I have had this car for about two years and the car has performed outstandingly. I bought the car with all the GTP options except the supercharger. I was planning on adding performance parts to the car, but I decided that the car was fine the way it is.

  • BAD GTP - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

This is a great car for the money! Initially I wanted this car for the exterior looks and the fact that it was supercharged. This car is a beauty both inside and out. The inside has all the bells and whistles. I love the heads-up display. This car is unbelievably fast and FUN to drive. It has been very dependable w/ very little maintenance considering it now has 86,000 miles. I had a Taurus SHO before and this GTP is much more reliable. Also, it has excellent gas mileage for its size and engine. This car definitely makes a statement!

  • Finally, one of my own. - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

Grew up with my father buying a 1990 SE 2 door and 1995 GTP 2 door new from the dealership. He would let me drive them once in a while when I was good - a giant leap up from my Honda Civic stationwagon I was stuck with during high school. Just bought a fire engine red 4 door SE and it handles almost TOO well, like Im not supposed to be driving it, or I should be extra careful with it. Good times.

I wanted this car for soooo long. I loved th power and styling. But the nitpicky problems have been annoying to say the least. I am on my 3rd window motor, 4th radio, the temp. control dial sticks, and the one door panel is loose. And, there isnt a dealer worth anything in my area. It also developed leaks that were expensive to repair. oh well. The car is only 3 years old... I dread what is next....
